Patrick De Maeseneire
CEO

Patrick De Maeseneire, born in 1957 in Belgium, joined Jacobs Holding AG in November 2015 as Chief Executive Officer. Besides his function as CEO he also serves as Chairman of our portfolio company, Barry Callebaut AG and as member of the Board of Ahold Delhaize, a Dutch-Belgian international food retailer.

Prior to joining Jacobs Holding AG, Patrick was CEO of Adecco S.A., the largest staffing company in the world and Barry Callebaut AG. Under his leadership, Barry Callebaut started its successful global expansion, which ultimately turned it into the global leader in chocolate and cocoa that it is today. He started his professional career at Arthur Andersen Consulting followed by executive positions at Wang, Apple Computer and Sun International.

Patrick holds a Master’s degree in Commercial Engineering from the Solvay Business School of Brussels University (VUB), and a special license in marketing management from Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, Belgium. Patrick also completed studies in Business Management at the London Business School and INSEAD.

Michael Tuchschmid
CFO / Corporate Secretary

Michael Tuchschmid, Swiss national, joined Jacobs Holding AG in January 2009 as Corporate Secretary and was appointed CFO in 2016. As CFO / Corporate Secretary, Michael is responsible for finance, HR and corporate legal affairs.

Michael started his career as an auditor at KPMG in 1999. Afterwards he held various positions in the legal industry. He worked as law clerk at the Commercial Court of Aargau and as attorney at law at a Zurich based law firm where he focused on contract law, commercial litigation and arbitration and sports law.

Michael has completed a Master of Law at the University of Zurich and, in addition, has studied at the University of Paris X. He was awarded a Master of Laws (LL.M.) by the Bond University, Australia. He is a member of the Zurich Bar Association (inactive status).

Tomas Aubell, born in Sweden, joined Jacobs Holding AG in April 2015 to head up the new investment activities.

Prior to joining Jacobs Holding AG, Tomas was a Partner at EQT Partners where he played a key role in a number of transactions, such as Tognum, Sirona and Leybold Optics. He co-led the DACH equity team and had the global responsibility for the healthcare and the industrial sector teams. Before EQT Partners, Tomas worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and Bain & Company.

Tomas holds a M.Sc. in Engineering Physics from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and an MBA from INSEAD. He also studied business administration at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Andreas Tolpeit
Head of Investments

Andreas Tolpeit, born in Italy, joined Jacobs Holding AG in 2015 as Investment Manager and was appointed Head of Investments in 2017. In this capacity, Andreas and team source and evaluate new direct investment opportunities, execute investment transactions and support portfolio companies throughout the investment cycle in corporate finance related matters.

Prior to joining Jacobs Holding AG, Andreas worked at Rothschild in the German investment banking team. He was a member of the financial sponsors coverage team advising clients on the buy- and sell-side in M&A and capital market transactions gaining experience in the healthcare, automotive, consumer and industrials sectors.

Andreas holds a Master’s degree with highest honors in Finance and Law from Bocconi University and also studied at ESADE and the University of Cambridge.

Philip Buergin
Head of Value Creation

Philip Buergin, Swiss national, joined Jacobs Holding AG in 2012 as Investment Manager and was appointed Head of Value Creation in 2016. In this capacity, Philip and team work closely with portfolio companies to drive alignment on Jacobs’ agenda as shareholder.

Prior to joining Jacobs Holding AG, Philip was a Project Manager at Bain & Company where he engaged with clients in strategic transformations and restructuring programs across industries. He was also a member of Bain’s renowned private equity group, advising financial sponsors on the buy- and sell-side. Before Bain, Philip worked at Goldman Sachs and The Boston Consulting Group.

Philip holds a Master’s degree in Finance from University of St. Gallen and an MBA with honors from Columbia Business School. He graduated from Harvard Business School’s “Program for Leadership Development”.

Andreas Zimmermann
Investment Manager/Treasurer

Andreas Zimmermann, born in Switzerland, joined Jacobs Holding AG in 2000. In his function as Group Treasurer he is responsible for the Holding’s liquidity, insurance and risk management. Moreover, Andreas has allocated time as Investment Manager, helping drive our agenda as shareholder. Andreas has been able to leverage his deep capital market expertise and network in all relevant transactions, both on Holding- as well as on target company level. Specifically, Andreas has a strong track-record in structuring, negotiating optimal capital structures.

Prior to Jacobs Holding AG, Andreas spent significant time with UBS in its Equity Derivate sales team. Subsequently, Andreas held positions in Key Account Management of Zürcher Kantonalbank’s credit business and client relationship department.

Andreas holds a Business Administration degree in Finance and is a Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA).

Karun Dhurjati
Investment Manager

Karun Dhurjati joined Jacobs Holding AG in 2016 as an Investment Manager. In this capacity, Karun works with portfolio companies to identify value-enhancing opportunities and implement them. His primary focus is on strategic and operational levers. As part of the Value Creation team, Karun also supports the New Investments team in evaluating and defining post-deal value creation opportunities.

Prior to joining Jacobs Holding AG, Karun was Head of Special Projects at CIP Management AG. CIP is a Zurich-based investment company which owns and operates multiple consumer goods brands in Switzerland. At CIP, Karun led the Swiss rollout of one of the brands – b.good – and also worked on raising capital for the international expansion of the brand. Before CIP, Karun worked at Accenture Strategy and Barclays Capital.

Karun is a graduate in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and a post graduate in Management from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta.

Laura Rusu
Investment Manager

Laura Rusu, born in Romania, joined Jacobs Holding AG in May 2017 as an Investment Manager. In this capacity, she evaluates and executes direct investment transactions.

Prior to joining Jacobs Holding AG, Laura was an Investment Professional in the Private Debt team at Park Square Capital, in London. In her role, she analyzed and executed investment opportunities across the corporate debt capital structure (senior and junior tranches in primary and secondary markets).

Laura graduated from the Grande Ecole program at HEC Paris, where she specialized in International Finance.

Artur Sienczewski
Investment Manager

Artur Sienczewski joined Jacobs Holding AG in 2017 as an Investment Manager. In this capacity, he is responsible for sourcing deals and executing transactions.

Prior to joining the team, Artur worked for five years at Mid Europa Partners, the leading buyout investor in Central and Eastern Europe, where he executed and monitored investments. He began his career in the M&A department at Lazard in Paris.

Artur is a Polish and French national. He holds an MBA from INSEAD, an MSc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics, and a BSc in Economics from Paris Dauphine University.

Patric Somlo
Investment Manager

Patric Somlo, born in Switzerland, joined Jacobs Holding AG in January 2014 as an Investment Manager for new investments. In this capacity, he evaluates investment opportunities and executes transactions for direct investments.

Prior to joining Jacobs Holding AG, Patric was a Project Manager with Bain & Company, where he was engaged in Bain’s private equity group and operationally supported clients in growth strategies and operational performance improvements. Before Bain, Patric worked at Goldman Sachs in London.

Patric holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Stephanie Buschle, born in Germany, joined Jacobs Holding AG in June 2016 as an Investment Manager for new investments. In this capacity, she sources and evaluates new direct investment opportunities, executes investment transactions and supports the value creation of portfolio companies during the holding period.

Prior to joining Jacobs Holding AG, Stephanie was a Senior Consultant in the Corporate Finance / M&A team at PwC in Zurich and Toronto, where she advised both financial sponsors and corporates on buy- and sell-side transactions across various sectors. Previously, she gained experience in the Investment Banking Department with UBS in Frankfurt.

Stephanie holds a Master’s degree in Quantitative Economics & Finance and a Bachelor in Economics from the University of St. Gallen, and also studied at the Singapore Management University and in the MBA Programme at University of Michigan.

Thomas Trüb
Tax and Controlling

Thomas Trüb, born in Switzerland, joined Jacobs Holding AG in October 2006 as Accountant-Controller and assumed the responsibilities of Tax & Controlling in 2016. In this function he is responsible for Jacobs Holding AG’s monthly and year-end closing, coordination of Group consolidation, taxes as well as human resource management. Other main tasks include monitoring reports within the Jacobs Group, supporting Group companies in accounting, controlling and other financial affairs.

Before joining Jacobs Holding AG, Thomas worked for a retail company, where he was responsible for the administration and the accounting department. During this time his main tasks were financial statements, budgets, forecasts and cash flow plans as well as the continuous analysis and reporting of the business development.

Thomas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the KV Zurich Business School and a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Accounting & Finance from the University of Applied Sciences Zurich (HWZ).

The Board of Directors is our company’s ultimate governing body.

Nicolas Jacobs
Co-Chairman, Managing Director at investment company

Nicolas Jacobs is a Managing Partner of a venture capital and private equity company focused on investments in the FMCG sector. He has taken several executive positions of the Jacobs Family business. He serves as a Board Member of Barry Callebaut since 2012 and was previously responsible as Managing Director for the cocoa and the chocolate operations of South America.

Nicolas started his career at Goldman Sachs in 2006 and served for Burger King Corporation as a Senior Director for Global M&A and Development, with responsibilities for strategic projects and the expansion of Burger King globally.

Nicolas holds a Master’s degree in law from the University of Zurich, a Master of Finance of London Business School and a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD in Fontainebleau.

Philippe Jacobs
Co-Chairman, Investment Director at alternative investment management company

Philippe Jacobs is an Investment Director at Aalto Invest focusing on the firm’s public equity investments.

Previously, he worked at the Global Industrials Group in the Investment Banking Division of Royal Bank of Scotland and also at UBS AG in London and Zurich.

Philippe holds a M.Sc. in Finance from Imperial College Business School and Bachelor of Arts HSG in Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen. In addition, he has completed a course at the FESCO International Training Center in Shanghai in Chinese language and culture.

David (“Dave”) S. Johnson

David (“Dave”) Johnson, born 1956, joined the Advisory Board of Jacobs Holding AG in 2017. Prior to that, he had been Chief Executive Officer and President Americas of Barry Callebaut since May 2009 and was a member of the Executive Committee.

Before joining Barry Callebaut, Dave served as Chief Executive Officer and member of the board for Michael Foods, Inc., a food processor and distributor headquartered in Minnetonka, MN, US. From 1986 to 2006, Dave was with Kraft Foods Global, Inc. At Kraft Foods, he held several senior positions in different divisions, including marketing, strategy, operations, procurement and general management. His last position was President Kraft North America and Corporate Officer Kraft Foods Global, Inc. He started his career in 1980 at RJR Nabisco.

Dave is a lead director of the Board of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., an S&P 500 firm active in international insurance brokerage and risk management with headquarters in Itasca, IL, US. He also serves as an Advisory Board member for After School Matters, a non-profit organization in Chicago to develop cultural activities for youths.

Dave holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in business from the University of Wisconsin.

James (“Jim”) L. Donald

Jim Donald, born 1954, joined the Advisory Board of Jacobs Holding AG in 2015. He has been a member of the Board of Directors at Barry Callebaut since 2008.

Prior to these roles, Jim served from October 1996 to October 2002 as Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer of Pathmark Stores, Inc., a USD 4.6 billion regional super-market chain located in New York, New Jersey and Penn­sylvania. Prior to that time, he held a variety of senior management positions with Albertson’s, Inc., Safeway, Inc., and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. From October 2002 to March 2005, Jim Donald served as President of Starbucks, North America. Under his leadership, Starbucks experienced strong growth and performance. Jim Donald was also President & Chief Executive Officer of Starbucks Corporation from April 2005 to January 2008. Furthermore, Jim Donald served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Haggan, Inc., a 33-store Pacific Northwest grocery company based in Bellingham, from September 2009 until March 2011. Then, from February 2012 until August 2015, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Extended Stay, a large US-based hotel chain.

From 2008 until June 2013, he also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Rite Aid Corporation, one of the leading drug-store chains in the US with more than 4,900 stores in 31 states.

Jim Donald graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Century University, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
